Our Story

Meet  Brent  +  Kiah

Picture

Our  story  begins  where  all  great  love  stories do,  the  state  fair.

We met on the first day of the 2015 Kentucky State Fair. Kiah had just moved to Kentucky from California the week before. As fate would have it, her new job at the Kentucky Beef Council had her working at the "Big Red Barn" alongside the folks at the Kentucky Soybean Board, including Brent.

Beef and beans, and the rest is history.

agricultural  roots

It wasn't the aroma of fried fair food that connected us, but our love of agriculture and people. Having both grown up on family farms, we know and understand the rewards and hardships that come with farming.

Brent was raised on his family's Western Kentucky grain and tobacco farm in Calloway County. He is a proud graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food & Environment and the Martin School of Public Policy & Administration. He has ten years experience in agriculture communications and government policy. In 2018, USDA Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue appointed Brent to the USDA Plant Variety Protection Board. He is a featured speaker on agriculture issues, including the industrial hemp industry he oversaw in Kentucky. In 2019, he joined the San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau as Executive Director.
Kiah was raised on her family's seventh generation cattle ranch on the Central Coast of California in San Luis Obispo County. She is a proud graduate of the University of California, Davis College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences. She is experienced in agricultural marketing and communications, conducting television and radio interviews on behalf of Kentucky's beef industry, and has developed numerous consumer-facing campaigns promoting beef. Kiah is an active advocate for agriculture, passionate about sharing farmers' and rancher's stories with the non-agriculture community. Since February 2019, she has been using her creative talents full-time to help bring Burley & Barley's clients' ideas to life.

We are a young couple both raised by farm families. We credit our strong farming roots for our hard work ethic and the way we treat people - like family.

We are down-home good people passionate about telling great stories. Simple as that.

How can we tell yours?
